The Ropes: A School-Based Physical & Emotional Development Programme
The Ropes is a structured six-week physical and emotional development programme that I deliver personally as a current professional boxing champion. Designed for students in Year 7 and onwards, the programme is suitable for mainstream and Special Educational Needs (SEN) settings. Using safe, non-contact boxing-based training, the programme supports students’ wellbeing, confidence, and personal development.
1. Programme Purpose:
The Ropes harnesses the physical and psychological benefits of boxing training to develop essential life skills, including discipline, resilience, focus, and self-belief, in a positive and supportive school environment.
2. Key Benefits:
- Discipline and Focus: Students learn self-control, commitment, and respect for structure through a professional training framework that encourages consistency and goal-setting.
- Positive Physical and Emotional Outlet: Sessions provide a constructive outlet for energy and emotions, helping students manage stress, regulate behaviour, and improve emotional wellbeing through purposeful physical activity.
- Confidence and Self-Belief: By achieving incremental physical and technical goals, students build confidence, resilience, and a sense of personal achievement.
3. Inclusive and Adaptable Delivery
The programme is carefully designed to meet the needs of a wide range of learners:
- Mainstream students benefit from improved fitness, coordination, balance, spatial awareness, and exposure to a high-level work ethic.
- SEN and inclusion students benefit from clear routines, structured instruction, consistent role-modelling from a professional athlete, and enhanced proprioception and sensory regulation through rhythm-based movement.
4. Safety and Structure
- Duration: Six weeks
- Age Range: Year 7 onwards
- Location: Delivered on-site in schools
- Activities: Non-contact only, including footwork, shadow boxing, pad work, and conditioning
